About the NRI

The National Register of Instructors (NRI) is the only Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) endorsed Instructor register developed by the industry for the industry.

There are currently 900+ Instructors and Assessors on the National Register.

The not-for-profit Register is operated by RTITB and supported by Logistics UK and the Road Haulage Association (RHA). The NRI also issues AFV training certification to drivers, as well as supporting those delivering training and/or assessment to Category BE licence holders.

LED BY THE ROAD TRANSPORT INDUSTRY

The Register was established and launched in December 2016 as a replacement for the DVSA’s voluntary LGV Instructor Register and the RTITB Register of Professional Instructors. Both closed at the end of 2016. Since its launch, NRI has been both endorsed and overseen by DVSA, supported by Logistics UK and the Road Haulage Association (RHA) and operated by RTITB.

NRI is independently audited by Logistics UK annually. Logistics UK is one of the biggest business groups in the UK, supporting, shaping and standing up for, efficient logistics, with members from the road, rail, sea and air industries.

EXCLUSIVELY AN EXAMINATION BODY

The NRI is exclusively an examination body. Instructors and Assessors must pass an examination at an NRI approved centre to join the Register. The NRI monitors and uphold standards at these examination centres, as well as setting the examination criteria.

While experienced Instructors or Assessors may take the examination without any prior training, many register members choose to take a short training course before their examination to ensure their knowledge and skills are up to date.

Being part of the Register gives Instructors and Assessors independent, formal recognition of their ability, contributing to their professional development and enabling them to demonstrate their commitment to upholding the highest quality.

We believe that only by encouraging these exceptional standards of LGV instruction, assessment and mentoring, can we work collectively as an industry to improve driving standards and safety on the roads.

THE OBJECTIVES OF THE REGISTER

  • To agree and maintain a set of standards for the skills and underpinning knowledge required to be an effective LGV Instructor, LGV Assessor or Driver CPC Instructor.
  • To improve the standard of instruction and assessment for LGV and instruction for Driver CPC.
  • To increase the number of Registered LGV Instructors, LGV Assessors and Driver CPC Instructors.
  • To contribute to an improvement in the national pass rate of LGV vocational tests.

Our instructors are all RTITB NRI Qualified Instructors. This is in-line with our ongoing commitment to provide high quality LGV and Vocational Driver Training and related Support services . You can find out more about the NRI by visiting the National Register Of Instructors
